New Copilot Update - PowerPoint Narrative Builder

Transcript

Today I want to dive in quickly on this because Microsoft have just released an update for Copilot in PowerPoint. So this video is for people who have access to Copilot within their Microsoft 365 applications.

Remember, that is the paid version. You might have it at work. You might be one of those people who's paid for it on their personal subscriptions. Either way, this isn't related to the free version of Copilot. So just bear that in mind. Now, this update that's been added to Copilot in PowerPoint is something called PowerPoint Narratives.

Now, what exactly is PowerPoint Narratives and how can it be useful to you? Well, we can get Copilot to create a PowerPoint presentation for us. Standard, we've always been able to do that. But with PowerPoint narratives, it's going to present that information to us in a different way, and it's going to allow us to reorganise our different sections and add new sections in on the fly, making for a much more cohesive process.

So let's dive in and take a look. Now, if you have received the update, what you'll first notice is when you create a PowerPoint presentation, a blank one, I should say, you should see the Copilot icon now sitting just above the slide in the top left hand corner. Now, when we click this, we get a little menu and it's got three options in there.

We're going to use the first one because I want to get Copilot to generate a presentation for me. So we're going to say, create a presentation about. So now we're presented with a new window. And this is where we can type in our prompt. Now your prompt can be about whatever you want it to be about. I'm just going to say that I want to create a presentation about Copilot in Microsoft PowerPoint.

So let's send it through and see what Copilot comes up with. And you can see it's building me an outline for my presentation. We have an introduction section, key functionalities of Copilot, how to use Copilot effectively, so on and so forth. And this is what we call PowerPoint narratives. We can clearly see the outline, but we can also reorganise the way our slides are laid out from here.

If I hover over the introduction, for example, notice we have these little dots, and we can move different sections around to reorganise our presentation. This is so nice and easy. We can also add in new sections on the fly. So maybe I decide that I want to have a slide in my presentation that talks about the history of Copilot.

So what I can do is I can click on the plus and you'll see the plus come up whenever you hover over any of these sections. And then it reopens that prompt box. So I can now say add a topic about the history and development of Copilot. Let's send it through. And you can see in a few seconds, it's created an entire new section for me.

And once again, I could drag this around, move it and drop it wherever I want. So let's put it right at the end here. So I really like this as a much more cohesive way of working and building a presentation. So now we can just say generate slides. And it's going to go away and it's going to build out the presentation for me.

And the thing I always say with Copilot is nothing is set in stone. So if you don't like the wording or you don't like the imagery that's been used, then you can always just switch those out and modify the slides. This just gives you a really nice base to start from. And it means you're not just sitting there staring at a blank presentation.

So here we go. Here is my presentation all built for me and it's built me 27 slides in a matter of minutes. Now currently it's put me into slide sorter view. So if I wanted to move things around, I can do that from this view as well. I can simply drag and drop. If we go to the View tab, I'm going to switch back to Normal View.

Notice we have our sections added here so we can collapse and expand those as normal, but we have a really nice looking presentation. And if we want to swap out the imagery, we can just select the image, go to the Picture Format tab, and we can choose to change the picture, we can update the text, we can do whatever we need to do.

But in terms of quickly pulling information together and getting something into a slide deck, I really like this update.

Our aim is to ensure that everyone has an excellent learning experience. With this in mind, here are some tools which might help you to achieve this:
