Draft Messages from Prompts in Outlook

Have you ever been in the situation where you need to write a new email or compose a reply, but you don't really know where to start or how to word it? Well, if so, then Copilot is gonna be your new best friend. You can save so much time by using Copilot. To create a new email message based on a suggested prompt.


And this works very similar whether you're using classic Outlook or new Outlook. Our example is gonna be done in new Outlook, so let's create a new email. Control N is the keyboard shortcut, and then we can click in the body, notice the text that we have in there. We can press ALT I to open the Copilot prompt area or click on the Copilot skittle. Now, from here we can type our own prompt or choose one of the suggested prompts. I'm gonna go for short and friendly message, and then I'm just gonna type in some key points to cover. We can then click on the arrow to generate the email and like magic Copilot drafts, and email based on the prompt provided in seconds.


If you like what you see, you can click keep it. Alternatively, you can discard and start again.

  • Ctrl + N opens a new blank email message
  • Ctrl + I opens the Copilot prompt pane in the email body
  • Copilot makes it easy to generate a complete email in just a few clicks or keystrokes. Here's how to get started:
    1. Press Ctrl + N to open a new email and click into the body.
    2. Press Alt + I or click the Copilot icon to open the prompt panel.
    3. Choose a suggested prompt or type your own, then click the arrow to generate the draft.
    4. Click “Keep it” to use, or “Discard” to start.
