One of the things about my job is that sometimes I don't realise that people don't know about some of the most basic settings in Outlook. For example, I had a question the other day when I was showing my Outlook on the screen about the overall theme. How did I make it dark? How have I changed all the colour so that these now show in a pretty pink?
And this is so basic, so that's what we're going to run through today. Let me show you how I did it. Now on the screen here, this is a test account that I have. This is kind of what Outlook, and this is Outlook for the web, I might add. This is what Outlook looks like when it's in its most default form. It has a light background, a white background, and you might have blue or something running across the top.
Now if you want to change this and make the overall theme dark or change the colour of that blue, you simply need to go up to the cog icon at the top here and then click on General. And the second option down is Appearance. This is where we can control all of these settings. Now you have two options here.
You can customise your mode and then the colour that you're using or alternatively you can select a theme. If I click the drop down here, these are preset themes so whenever you select a theme it will automatically set whether it's dark or light and it will pick an overall colour scheme. Now, I like to have a little bit more control, so I will normally set mine to dark.
That looks good. And then I can choose my own background and my own colour that I want to use. So, I'm going to go for this background just here, and we're going to have pink highlight. Click on Save. And you can see that is now exactly what I get. And for me, a dark background is much easier on my eyes and it's just a little bit more fun.
It doesn't look like standard boring outlook. So a super simple little tip, but one that a lot of people don't know. Have a little play around, see if you prefer the dark or the light side.
